About the Role
As a Consultant Arboriculturist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality arboricultural services across South England, with a focus on Surrey and Sussex. You will work on a variety of projects, including large-scale housing developments, MOD projects, industrial and commercial sites, and public sector initiatives.
This role offers a flexible, hybrid working arrangement, with minimal requirements to travel into the office. Offices are located in Southampton, London, and Reading, and there is no requirement for overnight stays. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including experts in planning, placemaking, engineering, transportation, and asset management, to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct BS 5837 arboricultural surveys, veteran/ancient tree assessments, visual tree assessments, safety/risk surveys, and provide management advice.
- Prepare detailed reports, including survey schedules, Tree Constraints and Opportunities Plans, Management Plans, Impact Assessments, and Method Statements.
- Liaise with local authorities on tree protection legislation, including TPOs and Conservation Areas.
- Supervise site works and provide arboricultural guidance to clients.
- Prepare fee proposals and tender documents.
- Undertake quality assurance of reports and plans.
- Support the Natural Capital team with arboricultural expertise.
Qualifications
- Minimum Level 4 qualification in Arboriculture (e.g., ABC Level 4 Diploma or LANTRA Level 4 Certificate/Diploma).
- Proven experience with BS 5837 surveys and reporting, including digital surveying tools.
- Strong tree identification skills, including knowledge of pests, diseases, and fungi and their impact on risk and longevity.
- Consultant-level experience, with a background in planning and report writing rather than solely practical "on the tools" work.
- Experience in line management, staff development, and training is desirable.
- Full UK driving licence.
Day-to-Day
- Conduct site visits across South England, focusing on Surrey and Sussex.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality environmental consultancy services.
- Prepare and review arboricultural reports and plans.
- Communicate with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities to provide expert advice and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Contribute to the growth and development of the arboricultural team.
