Associate Director Ecology Overview

Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of our client, a forward-thinking ecological consultancy that has doubled in size over the last three years and continues to grow through innovation and excellence. With a reputation for delivering high-quality, science-led advice, they are seeking a senior ecology professional to join their leadership team and play a key role in guiding project delivery, team development, and strategic direction.

This consultancy focuses on interesting, complex, and strategically important projects rather than high-volume survey work. Their work spans from site acquisition through planning, public inquiries, construction, and long-term monitoring – always underpinned by a passion for innovation, conservation policy, and best practice.

Responsibilities

As an Associate Director you will:

  • Oversee multiple complex projects while mentoring and developing junior staff.
  • Deliver high-quality technical and commercial advice to clients across the UK.
  • Contribute specialist expertise in areas such as Bat Mitigation Licences, HRA, EcIA, or Ecoacoustics.
  • Collaborate with recognised experts on public inquiry and expert witness work.
  • Shape the future direction of a growing, award-winning consultancy.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • At least 10 years of experience in ecology, including senior or leadership roles.
  • Strong technical and commercial capability with proven project management experience.
  • Excellent client communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, innovative approach with the confidence to influence business growth.
  • Interest in mentoring and supporting team development.
Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering complex ecological projects from inception to completion.
  • Providing strategic advice to clients and stakeholders.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members to develop their skills and expertise.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on innovative research and expert witness work.
  • Contributing to the strategic growth and direction of the consultancy.
Benefits

Our client offers a genuinely progressive working culture, built on flexibility, wellbeing, and professional trust. Benefits include:

  • A permanent 4-day working week.
  • Fully remote working structure.
  • Competitive salary (£50k+, DOE) and discretionary bonus.
  • Five weeks’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • Opportunity to collaborate on cutting-edge research and innovation projects.

With a low staff turnover and award-winning culture, this is an excellent opportunity to join a consultancy that values its people, supports individual growth, and champions a sustainable work-life balance.

If you are ready to take the next step in your career and contribute to a forward-thinking, innovative consultancy, we encourage you to apply today!
