Key Responsibilities

As an Associate Ecologist, you will:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Ecology Management Team to grow and manage the ecology division, with an emphasis on shaping urban development projects.
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of cutting-edge ecological solutions in urban environments.
  • Help drive business development by building strong relationships with existing and potential clients while identifying growth opportunities in emerging areas like biodiversity net gain and nature-based solutions.
  • Deliver projects that comply with UK legislation, planning policies, and best-practice guidance.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members in tackling the nuances of urban ecological challenges, nurturing their professional development.
  • Champion innovation through integrating ecology into urban and multifunctional spaces to support forward-thinking projects.

Candidate Profile

Our client is seeking an individual with:

  • Strong Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience leading teams and cultivating productive collaborations within multidisciplinary and dynamic environments. Exceptional client relationship-building skills are key.
  • Project Management Expertise: Proven ability to handle complex urban ecology projects, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), biodiversity assessments, and green infrastructure planning. A solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Technical Excellence: A history of delivering innovative ecological approaches for major urban infrastructure or development projects. Knowledge of planning frameworks like The London Plan and local biodiversity strategies is highly advantageous.
  • Creative Thinking: A passion for pushing boundaries in urban ecology, with an interest in areas such as nature-based design and ecological resilience in smart city concepts.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading urban ecology projects through all phases, from planning to completion.
  • Offering expert advice and fostering innovative solutions for clients and stakeholders.
  • Conducting ecological assessments and site visits in complex urban settings.
  • Creating detailed, high-quality documentation to meet regulatory and project standards.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to embed ecological principles into larger project frameworks.
  • Mentoring and offering technical support to junior ecologists to hone their skills and expertise.
