From being at the forefront of some of the largest offshore wind endeavours to delivering onshore wind and solar solutions, we play a vital role in bringing clean energy to the UK. Additionally, we tackle residential and commercial projects, ensuring a diverse and rewarding portfolio.


Responsibilities

As an Associate Ecologist, you will:

  • Lead and guide the Cardiff Ecology team, contributing to strategic planning and operational success within an urban framework.
  • Work collaboratively with senior management and colleagues across the organisation to foster an inclusive, agile, and high-performing ecological team.
  • Drive business development by strengthening relationships with clients in urban development sectors while identifying new opportunities in areas like biodiversity net gain and nature-based solutions.
  • Ensure projects are delivered successfully, adhering to UK legislation, planning policy, and industry best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior ecologists in their professional journey, particularly in navigating the unique challenges of urban ecology.
  • Promote innovation and excellence, particularly by incorporating ecological expertise into multifunctional urban infrastructure and green spaces.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage diverse, high-performing teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Extensive experience managing complex ecological projects, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), green infrastructure design, and biodiversity net gain assessments in an urban context.
  • Advanced technical expertise in delivering ecology solutions for major urban infrastructure and regeneration projects in Cardiff or similar areas.
  • A deep understanding of planning frameworks, such as relevant local biodiversity action plans and Welsh planning policies.
  • A future-focused mindset, with an interest in nature-based design, ecological resilience, and smart city integration.
  • Strong client engagement and relationship-building skills, paired with a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit.

Day-to-Day

Your key day-to-day activities will include:

  • Overseeing the successful delivery of urban ecology projects while ensuring adherence to client expectations and regulatory standards.
  • Building and nurturing strong relationships with clients and various stakeholders.
  • Providing technical direction and strategic input for urban ecology initiatives in Cardiff and surrounding areas.
  • Guiding and mentoring team members, fostering their growth and development in the field of ecology.
  • Identifying and pursuing potential business opportunities, specifically in emerging markets such as biodiversity net gain.
  • Encouraging the adoption of innovative approaches and best practices across the Ecology team and wider organisation.
