Our client, a leading consultancy, is seeking a passionate and experienced Associate Ecologist to join their dynamic team in London. Responsibilities

As an Associate Ecologist, you will:

  • Support the Senior Ecology Management Team in overseeing and expanding the London Ecology team, providing strategic direction and operational leadership in an urban context.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to foster an inclusive, agile, and high-performing ecology sector.
  • Drive business growth by strengthening relationships with key clients in urban development and identifying new opportunities in emerging markets such as biodiversity net gain and nature-based solutions.
  • Ensure the delivery of projects in compliance with UK legislation, planning policy, and industry best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior ecologists, guiding them through the complexities of urban projects and fostering their professional development.
  • Champion innovation and technical excellence, particularly in integrating ecology into multifunctional urban spaces and infrastructure.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire teams in a multidisciplinary, high-pressure environment. Strong client engagement skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Project Management Expertise: Extensive experience managing complex urban ecology projects, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), green infrastructure, and biodiversity net gain assessments. Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong track record of delivering ecological solutions for major infrastructure and regeneration projects in London or other urban areas. Familiarity with planning frameworks such as the London Plan and local biodiversity strategies.
  • Innovative Thinking: A forward-looking approach to urban ecology, with an interest in nature-based design, ecological resilience, and smart city integration.

Day-to-Day

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing urban ecology projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to build strong, lasting relationships.
  • Providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative ecological solutions.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging practices in urban ecology.
