Associate Nature - Ecology/Biodiversity

Overview

We are working with our client, a leading sustainability and environmental consultancy, who are seeking an Associate Ecologist to join their growing Nature team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key leadership role delivering complex ecology and biodiversity projects that make a tangible difference to the environment.

Responsibilities

As an Associate Ecologist, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of complex ecology and biodiversity projects.
  • Manage project budgets, client relationships, and fee proposals.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to their professional development.
  • Undertake surveys and ecological assessments as required.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and proposals.
  • Support business development and contribute to department growth and performance.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced and motivated ecologist with the following qualifications and skills:

  • A degree in ecology, biology, or environmental science (MSc desirable).
  • Full membership of CIEEM (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience managing complex ecological projects.
  • Excellent report writing and client liaison skills.
  • Strong understanding of protected species legislation and survey methods.
  • Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA).
  • Knowledge of BREEAM land use and ecology credits.
  • Ideally holds protected species licences (e.g., bats, great crested newts).

Day-to-Day

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Independently managing and delivering complex projects from start to finish.
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Conducting ecological surveys and assessments.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports, proposals, and ecological management plans.
  • Attending client and project meetings to provide expert advice.
  • Supporting the professional development of junior team members through mentoring and training.
  • Contributing to business development and the growth of the Nature team.
