ResponsibilitiesAs a Botanist, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Leading and delivering UKHab and NVC surveys.
- Conducting detailed habitat condition assessments and specialist botanical surveys.
- Advising on habitat creation, enhancement, and restoration design.
- Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including habitat assessments and management plans.
- Supporting Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and wider ecological reporting.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including planning, hydrology, landscape, and engineering specialists.
- Contributing to project programming, budgeting, and client liaison.
- Supporting and mentoring early-career ecologists.
Depending on your experience, there is scope to take on technical leadership or people management responsibilities.
QualificationsTo excel in this role, you will need:
- Strong botanical field skills within a consultancy environment.
- FISC Level 4 or higher, or confidence in achieving this standard.
- Working knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
- Experience contributing to ecological impact assessments and technical reporting.
- A degree in Ecology, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
- A full UK driving licence.
Experience in coordinating surveys, managing small projects, or supporting fee proposals would be advantageous but is not essential.
Day-to-DayYour day-to-day activities will involve:
- Conducting field surveys to identify and assess plant species and habitats.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations into project designs.
- Preparing detailed reports and management plans to support planning applications and ecological compliance.
- Engaging with clients to provide expert advice on ecological matters.
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members to develop their skills and expertise.
- Participating in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure successful project delivery.
