Responsibilities
As a Consultant Ecologist, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and participating in ecological surveys for a variety of habitats and protected species, including bats, great crested newts, reptiles, dormice, badgers, water voles, otters, and birds.
- Preparing high-quality technical reports, including ecological impact assessments, mitigation plans, and biodiversity net gain assessments.
- Supporting the delivery of Nutrient Assessments and enhancement or management plans.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects across sectors such as residential, defence, infrastructure, energy, and government services.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met with professionalism and expertise.
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members, contributing to their professional development.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in ecological surveys and assessments, with a focus on protected species and habitats.
- Working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- Strong report-writing skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise technical documents.
- A protected species licence (e.g., bat, great crested newt) or evidence of working towards obtaining one.
- Proficiency in data analysis and GIS software is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A full UK driving licence.
