Consultant Ecologist
Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a growing environmental consultancy seeking an Ecologist to join their team in Crawley. Overview
We are looking for a motivated and skilled Ecologist to join a dynamic and expanding team. This role is ideal for someone with 2-4 years of consultancy experience who is eager to take the next step in their career. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from initial surveys to reporting and client engagement, while contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes.
Responsibilities
As an Ecologist, your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting and leading habitat and protected species surveys.
- Preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and associated technical reports.
- Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and habitat condition surveys.
- Assisting with licence applications and developing mitigation strategies.
- Liaising with clients and supporting planning submissions.
- Contributing to fee proposals and tender documents, as required.
This role offers a balanced mix of fieldwork and office-based reporting, with clear opportunities for career progression.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree in Ecology or a related discipline.
- 2-4 years of relevant consultancy experience.
- Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- Experience in conducting surveys and producing ecological reports.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Graduate or Associate membership of CIEEM(or working towards it).
- A full UK driving licence.
Holding or working towards a protected species licence (e.g., bat, GCN, or dormouse) would be advantageous.
Day-to-Day
Your daily activities will include:
- Planning and conducting ecological surveys in the field.
- Analysing data and preparing detailed reports.
- Collaborating with senior colleagues to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
- Managing smaller projects and defined tasks independently.
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to provide expert ecological advice.
- Supporting the preparation of planning applications and biodiversity strategies.
