Team Lead – Ecology

Salary: £60,000 - £75,000
Are you an experienced ecology consultant looking for a leadership role in Cumbria?
Embankment Group is supporting the appointment of an Ecology Team Lead to manage, develop and grow a regional ecology team. This position offers a strong mix of technical delivery, team management, client engagement and strategic input.
The role would suit someone who enjoys leading from the front, supporting colleagues and helping deliver high-quality ecological work across a broad range of projects.
The Opportunity
This is a senior appointment within an established ecology function. You will take responsibility for a regional team, helping to manage workload, support staff development and ensure projects are delivered commercially and technically.
The work will be varied and may include infrastructure, energy, development, utilities and wider environmental projects. You will also work closely with specialists across other disciplines, giving you exposure to multidisciplinary project delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing and supporting a team of ecologists in Cumbria.
- Overseeing ecology projects from initial scoping through to completion.
- Reviewing technical reports and ensuring high standards of delivery.
- Supporting ecological impact assessments, mitigation strategies and protected species work.
- Managing clients and contributing to long-term relationships.
- Assisting with bids, tenders and fee proposals.
- Supporting team growth, recruitment and resource planning.
- Mentoring junior and mid-level ecologists.
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate is likely to have:
- Proven consultancy experience within ecology.
- Experience managing people, projects or both.
- Strong knowledge of ecological survey work, assessment and reporting.
- Confidence reviewing technical outputs.
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project budgets.
- Strong client-facing skills.
- Membership of CIEEM.
- A relevant degree in ecology, environmental science, biology or a related subject.
