Location: Southampton

Salary: £55,000 - £75,000

Embankment Group is recruiting for an Ecology Team Lead opportunity based in Southampton.

This role is ideal for an experienced ecology professional who is ready to lead a regional team, support technical delivery and contribute to the growth of a successful ecology function. It offers the chance to work across varied projects while playing a key part in mentoring and developing others.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will lead a regional ecology team, helping to manage project delivery, technical standards, workload and client relationships. You will work closely with colleagues across ecology and wider environmental disciplines, supporting projects from early advice and survey planning through to reporting, assessment and mitigation.

This is not just a technical role. It will also involve people leadership, commercial awareness, bid support and strategic input into the future growth of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a Southampton-based ecology team.
  • Manage ecological inputs across a varied project portfolio.
  • Provide technical guidance and quality assurance.
  • Support project planning, resourcing and financial performance.
  • Maintain and develop client relationships.
  • Contribute to bids, proposals and business development.
  • Mentor ecologists and support their progression.
  • Work with wider environmental and planning teams to deliver joined-up project solutions.

Candidate Profile

You will be well suited to this role if you have:

  • A strong background in ecological consultancy.
  • Experience operating at Principal, Associate or Team Lead level.
  • Good knowledge of UK habitat and protected species survey work.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing EcIA, mitigation strategies and technical reports.
  • Confidence managing clients, budgets and deadlines.
  • Experience supporting or managing a team.
  • Full membership of CIEEM, or a clear route towards it.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

What’s on Offer

This is a senior role with the opportunity to shape a regional team, influence project delivery and support long-term growth. It would suit someone looking for more responsibility, more visibility and the chance to combine technical ecology with leadership.
