ECoW / EnvCoW Opportunity
Overview
Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a respected environmental consultancy for an ECoW (Ecological Clerk of Works) / EnvCoW (Environmental Clerk of Works) to support a growing portfolio of renewable energy, infrastructure, and restoration projects across Scotland.
This role is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist or environmental professional with site experience who thrives in dynamic environments, working directly alongside contractors and project teams to deliver environmentally responsible construction projects.
Responsibilities
As an ECoW / EnvCoW, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance and ecological support across active construction projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the on-site ecological or environmental advisor.
- Monitoring compliance with planning conditions and environmental commitments.
- Delivering toolbox talks and site briefings to contractors and project teams.
- Supporting protected species mitigation and environmental management efforts.
- Attending site meetings and preparing detailed site reports.
- Conducting water quality monitoring and environmental inspections.
- Assisting with survey planning and project coordination.
- Supporting the development and implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Proven experience as an ECoW, EnvCoW, or Environmental Advisor.
- Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Strong health and safety awareness.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience in consultancy or construction-related environments.
While not essential, the following would be advantageous:
- Protected species survey experience.
- CSCS accreditation.
Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day activities will involve a mix of site supervision, environmental compliance monitoring, and ecological support. You will work closely with contractors and project teams to ensure that construction activities align with environmental best practices and legal requirements. This role will require regular travel to project sites across Scotland, offering a dynamic and varied work environment.
