Environmental Manager / ECoW
Overview
Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a growing environmental consultancy for an Environmental Manager / ECoW to join a well-established ecology and environmental team supporting projects across Scotland.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including renewable energy, infrastructure, and peatland restoration. The role involves taking a lead in environmental compliance, project delivery, and stakeholder coordination, contributing to nationally significant projects that make a real difference to sustainable development and environmental protection.
Responsibilities
As an Environmental Manager / ECoW, your key responsibilities will include:
- Acting as Environmental Manager or Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) on construction projects.
- Advising on environmental compliance and ensuring adherence to planning conditions.
- Supporting Controlled Activities Regulations (CAR) licence and protected species requirements.
- Conducting environmental inspections and preparing detailed reports.
- Managing ecological and environmental project delivery to meet programme and budget requirements.
- Supporting clients during the construction phases of projects.
- Preparing tenders and contributing to business development initiatives.
- Mentoring and supporting junior environmental and ecology staff.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree in a relevant subject and a minimum of 3–5 years of experience in consultancy or environmental management.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience in delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication and client management skills.
- Membership of CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management) or an equivalent professional body.
- A full UK driving licence and a valid CSCS card.
Experience with protected species work or ecological surveys would be advantageous but is not essential.
Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day activities will include:
- Acting as an on-site environmental advisor, liaising with contractors and project teams to ensure compliance with environmental commitments.
- Delivering toolbox talks and conducting water quality monitoring.
- Attending site meetings and providing expert advice on environmental matters.
- Preparing and reviewing site documentation, such as Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
- Engaging with stakeholders, including statutory agencies and NGOs, to negotiate and resolve environmental concerns.
- Supporting the planning and management of ecological surveys.
- Contributing to the preparation of tenders and business development strategies.
