Our client, a major UK housebuilder with a strong national presence, is seeking an experienced biodiversity professional to lead the organisation’s nature strategy at group level. This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior role where you will shape best practices, guide regional delivery teams and influence the direction of biodiversity work across the wider sector.
As the Group Head of Biodiversity, you will work closely with senior leadership teams, provide specialist technical direction on biodiversity net gain, and act as the external face of the business on key industry matters. This role offers nationwide exposure and the chance to make a measurable impact on sustainable placemaking.
ResponsibilitiesAs the Group Head of Biodiversity, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading biodiversity and nature strategy, policy, and procedures across the group.
- Providing expert support to regional teams to optimise biodiversity net gain delivery and ensure compliance.
- Developing guidance, processes, and training to embed consistent biodiversity approaches.
- Setting KPIs and reporting mechanisms for group-wide performance monitoring.
- Assessing external ecology and landscaping capability to support efficient project delivery.
- Advising on legislation and policy changes and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- Representing the organisation in industry forums and supporting engagement with Government.
- Championing innovative solutions and emerging technologies to strengthen biodiversity outcomes.
- Supporting the creation of exemplar sites and biodiversity opportunities that enhance brand reputation.
- Building strong working relationships with relevant organisations and sector working groups.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in ecology, conservation, or a related discipline, along with membership of a relevant professional institute.
- Senior-level biodiversity experience within housebuilding, consultancy, or infrastructure.
- A strong understanding of biodiversity net gain legislation, methodologies, and practical application.
- Applied knowledge of planning requirements linked to biodiversity.
- A commercial mindset with the ability to support wider business goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to represent an organisation externally and build trusted relationships at a senior level.
- A collaborative approach and resilience, with the ability to work across varied teams.
- An appetite for innovation and improving ways of working.
- Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
On a typical day, you will:
- Collaborate with senior leadership teams to refine and implement biodiversity strategies.
- Provide technical advice and support to regional teams on biodiversity net gain delivery.
- Develop and deliver training sessions to embed biodiversity best practices across the organisation.
- Monitor and report on biodiversity performance metrics and KPIs.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including Government and industry bodies, to represent the organisation’s biodiversity agenda.
- Explore and champion innovative technologies and solutions to enhance biodiversity outcomes.
- Build and maintain relationships with ecological consultants, landscaping experts, and other key partners.
