Principal Ecologist
Overview
Our client, a highly respected and values-driven employee-owned company, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Principal Ecologist to join their team. Based near Exeter in Devon, their office is situated in a picturesque location on the banks of the River Clyst, offering stunning views across the estuary. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex and engaging projects, support a talented team of ecologists, and foster strong relationships with clients and project teams across various sectors.
Responsibilities
As a Principal Ecologist, you will:
- Lead and deliver complex ecological projects across a range of sectors.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to a team of skilled ecologists.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, planners, and regulators.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, including EcIAs, HRAs, BNG assessments, ES Ecology chapters, and Ecological Management Plans.
- Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities and supporting commercial growth.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best practices in ecological consultancy.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A relevant degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Significant professional experience, including at the Senior Ecologist level or equivalent.
- Full Membership of CIEEM (Chartered Ecologist/Environmentalist status is advantageous).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Proven experience in preparing technical reports and delivering ecological assessments.
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.
- A Full UK driving licence.
Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Managing and delivering a diverse portfolio of ecological projects.
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members to develop their skills and expertise.
- Conducting site visits and ecological surveys as required.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Preparing and reviewing technical reports to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to provide expert advice and guidance.
