Principal Ecologist
Location: Oxfordshire
Salary: £48,000 - £55,000
Embankment Group is supporting the recruitment of a Principal Ecologist in Oxfordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist to take a leading role in the delivery of complex ecology projects, while supporting clients, mentoring colleagues and contributing to wider business growth.
The Role
The successful candidate will lead ecological work across a range of development, infrastructure and environmental projects. You will provide technical advice, manage project delivery, review reports and support colleagues across the team.
This position would suit someone who enjoys technical leadership but also wants to stay involved in client work, project strategy and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead ecological inputs on a variety of projects.
- Manage project programmes, budgets and technical delivery.
- Prepare and review ecological reports and assessments.
- Provide advice on ecological constraints, mitigation and planning requirements.
- Support protected species, habitat and impact assessment work.
- Liaise with clients, regulators and project teams.
- Mentor and support ecologists at earlier career stages.
- Contribute to bids, proposals and commercial opportunities.
Candidate Requirements
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience in ecological consultancy.
- Experience managing complex ecology projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK ecology legislation, planning policy and best practice.
- Experience reviewing technical reports.
- Confidence advising clients and managing expectations.
- Strong project management and commercial skills.
- CIEEM membership.
- Protected species licences or specialist expertise would be advantageous.
