About the Opportunity

Embankment Group is recruiting for an experienced Principal Ecologist to join an environmental consultancy based in Derbyshire.

This opportunity would suit an established Principal or Associate-level Ecologist looking for a position offering a combination of technical leadership, project management and team development.

You will be involved in delivering a variety of ecological projects, providing specialist advice to clients and supporting the wider team. The position offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, contribute to business development and play an important role in the consultancy's continued success.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee ecological projects across a range of sectors.

• Provide technical advice to clients on ecological assessments, planning requirements and mitigation strategies.

• Prepare and review ecological reports, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation.

• Manage project budgets, programmes and resources.

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and senior ecologists.

• Support the development of client relationships and identify opportunities for new business.

• Contribute to project proposals, tenders and commercial planning.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high standards of project delivery.

• Support the development and implementation of ecological best practice across the team.

About You

• Significant experience within ecological consultancy, ideally at Principal level or above.

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.

• CIEEM membership, ideally MCIEEM or Chartered Ecologist status.

• Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy and ecological assessment methodologies.

• Experience managing complex ecological projects and providing technical oversight.

• Proven experience mentoring or managing other ecologists.

• Strong technical report-writing and reviewing skills.

• Experience in one or more specialist ecological disciplines, such as protected species, ecological impact assessment or habitat assessment.

• Good commercial awareness, including project budgets, client management and business development.

• Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
