As part of their continued growth, our client is looking to recruit a Senior Ecology Consultant to join their thriving Ecology team. Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Ecology Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality ecological services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading ecological surveys, offering expert technical advice, and producing high-quality reports such as PEA, EcIA, Biodiversity Net Gain, and BREEAM assessments.
  • Overseeing and managing a variety of ecological projects across regeneration, property, transport, and public service sectors.
  • Contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and undertaking Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Mentoring and supporting the professional development of junior staff.
  • Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships, offering commercially focused ecological advice.
  • Preparing competitive fee proposals while effectively managing client expectations.
  • Reviewing and contributing to technical reports, ensuring compliance with the latest legislation and best practices.
  • Keeping abreast of ecological legislation, planning policy, and industry developments.
  • Collaborating across regional teams, with occasional travel to participate in nationwide projects and meetings.

What We’re Looking For

To excel in this role, our client is seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in ecological consultancy or a similar field.
  • Full membership of CIEEM or Chartered Ecologist status (highly desirable).
  • Comprehensive experience conducting ecological surveys, ideally with species-handling expertise.
  • Proficiency in technical report writing, including EcIA, PEA, Biodiversity Net Gain, and BREEAM assessments.
  • Understanding of the EIA process and experience contributing to Environmental Statements (an advantage).
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor teams of varying skill levels.
  • Exceptional communication and report writing skills, including the preparation of fee proposals.
  • A solid understanding of conservation-related legislation and potential licensing for protected species (holding a survey/handling licence is beneficial).
  • Familiarity with both linear infrastructure and property development projects.

  • Conducting a wide range of ecological surveys and assessments.
  • Preparing and critically reviewing technical reports to align with industry standards.
  • Offering reliable guidance and expert advice to clients and stakeholders on ecological matters.
  • Overseeing the delivery of projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and objectives.
  • Supporting the growth of junior team members through tailored mentoring.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across varied projects nationwide.
  • Staying current with legislative changes and adopting best practices in ecology.
