Responsibilities
As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll take on a pivotal role in delivering high-quality ecological services. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing a range of ecological projects such as:
- Ecological Impact Assessments (EIA)
- Habitats Regulation Assessments (HRA)
- Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments
- Protected Species Surveys and Reports
- Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
- Licensing and mitigation strategies for protected species
- Preparing proposals and quotations for business development initiatives.
- Collaborating with subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams to streamline project delivery.
- Acting as a key liaison between clients, in-house teams, and external partners to ensure smooth project execution.
- Supporting the professional growth of junior team members through mentorship and guidance.
- Adhering to professional standards as set out by bodies such as CIEEM, IEMA, CIWEM, or IFM.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria:
- A relevant degree or master’s qualification in ecology, environmental sciences, or a related field.
- Active professional membership with organisations such as CIEEM, with a strong preference for those working towards Chartership status.
- Advanced expertise in survey techniques, including UK Habitat Classification and species-specific surveys.
- Holders of one or more Protected Species Licences.
- In-depth understanding of the EIA process and related methodologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legislative and planning policy frameworks.
- Exceptional report writing and review skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Experience in developing fee proposals and producing accurate quotations.
- Outstanding organisational skills, alongside the ability to manage priorities under time constraints.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for client and stakeholder interactions.
- Full UK driving licence with a clean record.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- Familiarity with project management software (e.g., WorkflowMax).
- Certification such as a CSCS card or EMSS Safety Passport.
- Holders of qualifications like LANTRA 4x4 Training or Emergency Outdoor First Aid certification.
