Responsibilities
As a Senior Ecologist, you will:
- Conduct a variety of habitat and species surveys, demonstrating expertise in one or more specialist areas.
- Prepare clear, concise, and high-quality ecological reports, including Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
- Assist with tender preparation and fee estimates for new projects.
- Manage and coordinate ecological surveys and projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
- Provide expert advice to clients on UK and EU environmental legislation, planning policies, and processes.
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their professional development.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver innovative and sustainable ecological solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience (3-5 years) in a similar role within the ecology sector.
- Field skills in one or more specialist areas, with a preference for candidates holding or working towards bat, GCN, or dormouse survey licences.
- Strong project management and coordination skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports.
- In-depth knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation and planning policies.
- Associate or Full CIEEM Membership (or eligibility for membership in the near future).
- A degree in Ecology or a related field.
- A full UK driving licence.
Day-to-Day
Your typical day will involve:
- Conducting field surveys and assessments across a variety of sites.
- Preparing detailed ecological reports and recommendations for clients.
- Managing project timelines and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
- Liaising with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to provide expert advice.
- Supporting the wider team with technical expertise and mentoring junior staff.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing to the company’s ongoing development.
