Overview

Our client, a leading consultancy in the field of ecology and environmental services, is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join their dynamic and growing team based in Stafford. Responsibilities

As a Senior Ecologist, you will:

  • Conduct a variety of habitat and species surveys, demonstrating expertise in one or more specialist areas.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and high-quality ecological reports, including Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
  • Assist with tender preparation and fee estimates for new projects.
  • Manage and coordinate ecological surveys and projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
  • Provide expert advice to clients on UK and EU environmental legislation, planning policies, and processes.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their professional development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver innovative and sustainable ecological solutions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in a similar role within the ecology sector.
  • Field skills in one or more specialist areas, with a preference for candidates holding or working towards bat, GCN, or dormouse survey licences.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation and planning policies.
  • Associate or Full CIEEM Membership (or eligibility for membership in the near future).
  • A degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Day-to-Day

Your typical day will involve:

  • Conducting field surveys and assessments across a variety of sites.
  • Preparing detailed ecological reports and recommendations for clients.
  • Managing project timelines and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to provide expert advice.
  • Supporting the wider team with technical expertise and mentoring junior staff.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to the company’s ongoing development.
