Overview

Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a well-established ecology consultancy based in Stafford that is continuing to grow its technical team. With a strong pipeline of work across the UK, they are seeking a Senior Ecologist to support project delivery and help shape the next phase of their expansion.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative team of over 30 ecologists delivering a diverse portfolio of projects. These range from residential and retail developments requiring detailed Biodiversity Net Gain assessments to large-scale road, rail, quarry, and strategic infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality ecological services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating habitat and protected species surveys.
  • Producing high-quality technical reports and ecological assessments.
  • Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Assisting with tender preparation and fee estimates.
  • Contributing to project management and client liaison.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have approximately three to five years of consultancy experience and be confident in leading surveys and managing technical outputs. You are likely to demonstrate:

  • Strong field skills in one or more specialist areas.
  • Working towards or already holding a bat, GCN, or dormouse survey licence.
  • Experience in coordinating surveys and supporting project delivery.
  • A solid understanding of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
  • Clear and concise report writing skills.
  • Associate or Full CIEEM membership, or eligibility to achieve this.
  • A relevant degree in Ecology or a related discipline.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Planning and conducting ecological surveys, ensuring high standards of data collection.
  • Preparing detailed ecological reports and assessments for a variety of projects.
  • Collaborating with clients and stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
  • Supporting the development of junior team members through mentoring and guidance.
  • Contributing to the preparation of tenders and fee proposals.
  • Working both independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.
