Embankment Group is proud to partner with a well-established environmental consultancy to recruit a Senior Ecologist for their Bristol office. Responsibilities

As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies for complex and high-profile projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the ecological components of projects across the energy, infrastructure, and development sectors.
  • Advising clients and contractors on ecological constraints and mitigation measures.
  • Preparing fee proposals, scopes of work, and high-quality technical reports.
  • Reviewing technical outputs produced by colleagues and subcontractors to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Planning and coordinating ecological survey programmes.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the ecology team to foster their professional development.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including planning, landscape, hydrology, and other environmental specialists.

This role will involve regular fieldwork, travel, and occasional overnight stays, depending on project requirements.


Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in ecological consultancy and a proven ability to manage survey programmes and project work. Key qualifications and experience include:

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering ecological surveys and producing technical reports.
  • A thorough understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
  • Experience managing survey schedules and project budgets.
  • Proficiency in habitat surveys or protected species surveys.
  • Specialist survey experience (e.g., bats, reptiles, amphibians, birds, or aquatic species) is highly desirable.

Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day activities will be varied and engaging, including:

  • Conducting ecological field surveys and assessments.
  • Preparing detailed ecological reports and mitigation strategies.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to provide expert ecological advice.
  • Overseeing and coordinating survey schedules to meet project deadlines.
  • Supporting junior team members through mentoring and technical guidance.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions.
