Responsibilities
As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality ecological services and ensuring the success of multidisciplinary projects. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading ecological survey work and mitigation projects across various habitats and locations.
- Managing ecological inputs on complex developments in sectors such as renewable energy and infrastructure.
- Producing detailed technical reports and reviewing outputs from colleagues to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Preparing fee proposals and defining scopes of work for new and ongoing projects.
- Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth.
- Coordinating ecological survey programmes, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
- Collaborating with other environmental specialists to deliver integrated project solutions.
This role will involve occasional travel and fieldwork outside of standard working hours, offering a dynamic and varied work environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for ecology. Applicants should demonstrate the following:
- A degree in Ecology, Biology, or a related field.
- Eligibility for membership with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
- Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning processes.
- Proven experience in delivering ecological surveys and habitat assessments.
- Experience managing projects or coordinating survey programmes.
- Excellent report writing and technical review skills.
Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Planning and conducting ecological surveys across a variety of habitats.
- Managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Reviewing and finalizing technical reports for submission to clients and stakeholders.
- Mentoring junior team members and providing on-the-job training.
