Overview
Embankment Group is proud to support a growing environmental consultancy in their search for a Senior Ecologist to join their Cardiff team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead ecological delivery across a diverse range of projects in sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, and the built environment. Responsibilities
As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality ecological services and ensuring the success of multidisciplinary projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading ecological survey work and mitigation projects across various habitats and locations.
  • Managing ecological inputs on complex developments in sectors such as renewable energy and infrastructure.
  • Producing detailed technical reports and reviewing outputs from colleagues to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Preparing fee proposals and defining scopes of work for new and ongoing projects.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth.
  • Coordinating ecological survey programmes, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
  • Collaborating with other environmental specialists to deliver integrated project solutions.

This role will involve occasional travel and fieldwork outside of standard working hours, offering a dynamic and varied work environment.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for ecology. Applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • A degree in Ecology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning processes.
  • Proven experience in delivering ecological surveys and habitat assessments.
  • Experience managing projects or coordinating survey programmes.
  • Excellent report writing and technical review skills.

Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and conducting ecological surveys across a variety of habitats.
  • Managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Reviewing and finalizing technical reports for submission to clients and stakeholders.
  • Mentoring junior team members and providing on-the-job training.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations into broader project goals.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to provide expert ecological advice.
