Senior Ecologist
Overview
Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a growing environmental consultancy for a Senior Ecologist to join an established Edinburgh-based ecology team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Scotland.
If you are an experienced ecologist seeking to work on a diverse range of ecological surveys, impact assessments, and project management within a supportive and collaborative consultancy environment, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in delivering a variety of ecological projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and delivering ecological surveys.
- Preparing Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), and technical reports.
- Supporting habitat and protected species assessments.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, and regulators to ensure project success.
- Providing ecological advice during the construction phase of projects.
- Managing projects, budgets, and timelines effectively.
- Assisting with tender preparation and contributing to business development.
- Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists within the team.
This role offers a diverse workload across renewable energy, infrastructure, and restoration projects throughout Scotland.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven consultancy experience within the field of ecology.
- Strong field survey and reporting skills.
- A solid understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning processes.
- Experience managing projects and maintaining client relationships.
- Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
- Membership of CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management) or an equivalent professional body.
- A full UK driving licence.
Additional experience in protected species licensing, Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), ornithology, or biodiversity net gain would be advantageous.
Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day activities will involve:
- Conducting ecological field surveys and assessments.
- Preparing detailed reports and impact assessments for clients.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver environmentally significant projects.
- Engaging with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
