Senior Environmental Consultant - Scotland
Overview
Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a rapidly growing environmental and infrastructure services business seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to support the delivery of major environmental schemes across Scotland.
This is a strategic, delivery-focused role that combines technical environmental expertise with operational leadership. You will oversee environmental compliance across design and build projects, work within nationally significant infrastructure frameworks, and play a pivotal role in supporting business growth and operational excellence.
This position offers the opportunity to work across diverse and often sensitive landscapes, contributing to high-profile projects while helping shape internal processes, standards, and team capability as the business continues to scale.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Environmental Consultant, your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and associated documentation.
- Securing environmental consents and supporting licensing and regulatory submissions, including NSIP and similar processes.
- Conducting site inspections, audits, and compliance monitoring to ensure adherence to UK environmental legislation and best practices.
- Providing technical environmental advice to clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Supporting or leading Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), site investigations, and reporting.
- Acting as an Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) where required.
- Managing subcontractors, labour planning, and project budgets.
- Contributing to tenders, frameworks, and bid submissions.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives and operational standards.
- Mentoring and developing junior team members to foster a culture of excellence.
Qualifications
Essential:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Land Management, Landscape, or a related discipline.
- Practitioner-level membership of ISEP.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide, with occasional overnight stays.
Desirable:
- Membership or Fellowship of ISEP.
- Membership of AEnvCoW.
- CSCS Card.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
Day-to-Day
In this role, you will:
- Oversee multiple live projects, ensuring environmental compliance and operational excellence.
- Attend pre-start meetings, client reviews, and internal management discussions.
- Scope, quote, and plan works while managing subcontractor relationships and labour levels.
- Conduct on-site audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring.
- Provide expert advice to clients and internal teams on environmental legislation and best practices.
- Lead or support licensing and consenting processes, including NSIP/SCO.
- Develop and deliver environmental consultancy services, including EIAs and site investigations.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to their professional development.
- Drive health and safety performance across all operations.
