Senior Hydrologist

Embankment Group is recruiting on behalf of a growing planning and environmental consultancy for a Senior Hydrologist to join their multidisciplinary environmental team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead hydrology efforts across the business, working on diverse projects in renewables, infrastructure, and residential development.
Overview
As a Senior Hydrologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering technical hydrology expertise across environmental and planning projects. This standalone role will see you collaborating closely with internal teams, including ecology, landscape, archaeology, heritage, and planning, to ensure integrated project delivery. The position is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a multidisciplinary consultancy environment and is comfortable working independently.
Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) schemes.
- Conduct hydraulic modelling and prepare associated technical reports.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
- Organise and undertake site visits, and attend client and team meetings.
- Deliver hydrology modelling, analysis, and high-quality technical reporting.
Qualifications
- Degree in hydrology or a related discipline.
- Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE or CIWEM preferred).
- Proven experience delivering Flood Risk Assessments and Surface Water Management Plans.
- Strong knowledge of UK hydrology legislation and guidance.
- Proficiency in GIS and related software packages.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience in hydraulic modelling using software such as Flood Modeller Pro or HEC-RAS.
- Experience in peat stability assessments and EIA chapter contributions.
- Tendering or bid preparation experience.
Day-to-Day
- Lead hydrology efforts across the business, acting as the primary expert in this field.
- Work on a variety of projects, with a strong focus on renewable energy developments.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Conduct site visits and liaise with clients to provide expert advice and solutions.
- Prepare detailed hydrology reports and contribute to project proposals.
