Senior Nature Consultant – Ecology/Biodiversity

Overview

We are working with our client, a multi-award-winning sustainability and environmental consultancy, who are seeking a Senior Consultant to join their Nature team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist to lead on meaningful biodiversity and ecology projects as part of a forward-thinking organisation committed to creating a more sustainable world.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering impactful ecology and biodiversity projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering ecology and biodiversity projects from inception to completion.
  • Reviewing and preparing technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and BREEAM ecology reports.
  • Leading and conducting field surveys, such as UKHab, PEA, and bat surveys.
  • Performing biodiversity net gain calculations and mapping using QGIS.
  • Providing technical input to large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Mentoring and line-managing junior members of the Nature team.
  • Supporting business development and engaging with clients to build strong relationships.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated and experienced ecologist with the following qualifications and skills:

  • A degree in ecology, biology, or environmental science (MSc desirable).
  • Associate membership of CIEEM (working towards Full Membership is advantageous).
  • Strong report writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering ecology projects within planning and development contexts.
  • Proficiency in QGIS and familiarity with the Statutory Biodiversity Metric.
  • In-depth understanding of BNG, PEAs, and protected species surveys.
  • A bat licence and/or bird survey experience (desirable).
  • Experience in producing BREEAM ecology credit assessments.

Day-to-Day

Your daily activities will include:

  • Leading and managing a variety of ecology and biodiversity projects.
  • Conducting field surveys and ensuring accurate data collection.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports to meet client and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Mentoring junior team members and fostering their professional development.
  • Engaging with clients to provide expert advice and maintain strong relationships.
