Responsibilities
As a Senior Ecologist with Ornithology Expertise, you will:
- Lead and manage ornithological surveys, including winter, passage, and breeding bird surveys.
- Deliver high-quality ecological assessments and reports for projects across sectors such as residential, energy, defence, and transport.
- Liaise confidently with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to provide expert ecological advice.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring delivery within deadlines and to client expectations.
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their technical and professional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to the development of innovative approaches to ecological challenges.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in ornithological surveys and ecological consultancy.
- Membership of (or eligibility to join) the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
- Strong project management skills, including financial awareness and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A full UK driving licence and legal entitlement to work in the UK.
- Additional ecological skills outside of ornithology (desirable).
Day-to-Day
Your typical day may include:
- Conducting field surveys to assess the impact of developments on bird populations and habitats.
- Reviewing and providing feedback on technical reports prepared by junior team members.
- Attending client meetings to discuss project requirements and progress.
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver holistic project solutions.
- Managing project timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Participating in internal training sessions to enhance your technical and project management skills.
- Supporting the team in achieving high standards of ecological consultancy.
