Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead the delivery of ecological assessments such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA).
- Coordinate, design, and execute complex ecological surveys, with a strong focus on breeding and wintering bird surveys across large-scale sites.
- Act as the main point of contact, cultivating robust relationships with clients, statutory bodies, and planning authorities.
- Share your knowledge and develop the skills of junior team members through training and mentoring.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver creative and high-quality solutions.
- Manage projects to ensure they stay on budget and meet deadlines, while consistently exceeding client expectations.
- Identify business opportunities and contribute to building an impressive portfolio of successful projects.
What We’re Looking For
Our client is seeking someone who loves what they do and wants to make a positive impact. To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- A degree in Ecology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Proven specialism and practical experience in Ornithology, particularly breeding and non-breeding bird surveys.
- Strong working knowledge of the UK’s legislation and planning policy framework.
- Experience with Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA) and negotiations with statutory stakeholders like Natural England.
- Excellent identification and survey skills, including extended Phase 1/UKHabs and a range of species-specific methods.
- Confidence leading projects and building client relationships.
- Previous experience mentoring or managing junior staff.
- Strong communication skills, capable of producing high-quality technical reports.
- A proactive approach to business development and spotting new project opportunities.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.
